Incredible performance from our OK driver Taylor Barnard! The strong British kid raced a fantastic weekend from qualifying and through the heats, and was able to jump on the podium alongside fellow KR driver Lorenzo Travisanutto! It’s been a crazy weekend in Finland with constantly changing weather conditions, but Taylor has always been competitive on his favorite track.
We’re also happy about the performance shown by Antonelli in OKJ; the strong Italian kid has been competitive in qualifying and during the heats, winning some of them. We probably lost something under heavy rain in the final, but still we’re happy to have him in the Top 5 of the World Championship in his first year in OKJ.
OK vice World Champion, Taylor Barnard:
“It’s a very good weekend. I’ve been fast the whole time. We’ve had a bit of a problem in the first heat but we managed to overcome it and finish second in the final.
I’d like to thank everyone in the team for the support! I’m so happy about this achievement, for me and Travi for winning his second World Championship!”
Rosberg Racing Academy Manager, Flavio:
“We’re really happy for Taylor! He’s been very fast here from day one; he qualified P7 and did a good job, apart from one unlucky heat. After starting P6 in the final, he made it onto the podium in 2nd place! This was his first year in OK and he did a great job, so we’re confident for next year; we think he’s going to be one of the favorites!
Antonelli qualified 3rd and also did a good job during the heats, winning 3 of them. We raced the final on a wet track in OKJ, so very hard conditions for everybody; he finished P5 which we believe is a good result on such a complicated track, also on a difficult weekend with such variable weather conditions. Top 5 is actually a pretty good result in his first year in OKJ.”
KR General Manager, Dino Chiesa:
“I’m not surprised about Taylor Barnard being on the podium, we already knew he just needed to put together a better weekend. I took this kid with me to OKJ last year from the British Mini Kart series, and he had never raced international events before; after finishing the World Championship 4th in OKJ last year, this time he finished second in his first year in OK, behind a guy like Travisanutto… I believe he is one of the biggest talents we currently have in karting, alongside Patterson, Travisanutto and Minì.
It was a very difficult weekend for everyone with the changing weather conditions. We still have to verify why we haven’t been so competitive in OKJ in dry conditions; anyway, overall we’ve had a good performance. Our drivers also scored some fastest laps and we’re happy for what Antonelli was able to achieve.”
