The Rosberg Racing Academy just completed an amazing weekend in Lonato, for the first round of the WSK Open Cup! We finished on the top of the podium, as both Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Taylor Barnard won the race in OKJ and OK classes respectively!
This amazing performance comes as a confirmation of Barnrad’s speed, as he’s now competitive enough to fight for the win after a consistent progression during the whole season!
Antonelli finished the OKJ class in style with a magnificent move on the very last lap of the race! He will be racing in OK alongside Barnard and Han next year.
The Chinese driver was also fast and convincing this weekend more than ever; he’s been unlucky in some of the heats but proved to have the speed to compete for the top positions!

OKJ winner, Andrea Kimi Antonelli:

“It’s been the hardest race of the year for me! I started P4 in the final, I had a pretty good start, and I just tried to drive to my usual pace; all of my opponents were pretty fast and I was pushing extra hard to catch them. The last five laps have been really intense; after a small mistake, while I was in the slipstream of Bedrin, I made my move in the last lap, and we kept fighting for the remaining corners. I’m really happy to be a race winner again! Big thanks to Kart Republic, Rosberg Racing Academy, Ravenol, Mercedes, Alpinestar, Bengio and Lucky Design!”

OK winner, Taylor Barnard:

“It’s been a good weekend! I had a little problem during qualifying, but I’ve been able to recover to P3 after the heats. I started the pre-final second and managed to overtake Smal and win the race. I also go pole for the final by 0.050 of a second which is really close! In the final, starting from pole, I managed to keep the lead and pull a gap to bring it on home. I’d really like to thank Kart Republic, Rosberg Racing Academy, Ravenol and all of our sponsors!”

Rosberg Racing Academy Manager, Flavio:

“Kimi was simply great! After scoring pole on Friday, he won all the heats and finished second in the pre-final. We played with the tyre strategy, putting two new tires in the pre-final and saving the remaining two for the final. So, after starting 4th in the final, he did a fantastic race and moved his way up, reaching Bedrin with just 5 laps to go and overtaking him with an awesome move in the last lap and made it to win the race; a very well deserved one!
Han did a great weekend and a very good qualifying session! He didn’t make it to the final because of accidents he got involved in during the heats, but he definitely showed a serious improvement since the beginning of the season and I’m really looking forward to start the next season working with him!
In addition, Taylor Barnard won the race in OK! What a fantastic weekend for us! He’s always been fast this year and so he was in OKJ. It’s been his first race since the World Championship in Finland, where he finished second. This weekend he’s given us confirmation that he is a winning driver; with the departure of Dexter Patterson and Travisanutto, he’s now our top driver!”

KR General Manager, Dino Chiesa:

“It’s an easy weekend for me to judge, looking at the results! About OKJ, we know how strong Kimi is! He will be racing OK next year, as soon as he turns 14, and he did a great last race in OKJ today. In OK, Barnard has now become a reference for us; he showed how much he has improved this year and will be our top driver for next year!”
